Reduced energy consumption and cleaner production

Matzen Tegl works actively to reduce energy consumption and optimise production while maintaining the quality of our bricks. The work has commenced at Gråsten Teglværk where several technical initiatives form the basis for subsequent implementation at Carl Matzens Teglværk.

The initiatives focus on better energy utilisation in the production process and controlled handling of flue gases from firing.

Flue gas purification at Matzen Tegl

Flue gas purification has been initiated at Gråsten Teglværk as part of an ongoing modernisation of the production.

The purpose of flue gas purification is to reduce harmful particles and substances in the flue gas from the firing process before passing it on within the system or releasing it through the chimney. Flue gases from brick production contain compounds that could burden technical installations and subsequent processes if not properly treated.

Purifying the flue gases results in:

  • controlled and stable operating conditions
  • protection of technical components
  • a uniform basis for production processes

Flue gas purification is an independent technical measure that also creates the necessary conditions for further optimisation of the production facility.

Heat recovery from flue gases

Following flue gas purification, heat recovery from flue gases is being implemented to reuse heat in production.

Once the flue gases have been purified, their energy can be used more efficiently. When heat is being reused, the need for additional energy in the production process is reduced, and this contributes to an overall lower energy consumption.

When fully implemented, these initiatives are expected to contribute to an approximate 15% reduction in energy consumption at Gråsten Teglværk. This figure is based on technical assessments and calculations.

Part of a long-term technical development

The initiatives at Gråsten Teglværk form part of Matzen Tegl’s long-term work on developing production through documented technical solutions to be implemented throughout the organisation.

Focus is on:

  • reduction of energy consumption
  • utilisation of existing resources
  • stable and controlled production processes
  • future-proof brick production
