Herning Library was built using the handstruck 3601 Indian Summer Light bricks, which lend both exterior and interior walls a warm, bright and calm appearance. The vibrant handstruck texture adds character to the building and supports the open and welcoming atmosphere of the library.
Herning Library was designed by GPP Arkitekter in collaboration with Arkitektfirma Kristian H. Nielsen, which oversaw the transformation from a former department store into a modern cultural centre.
The building, now housing Herning Library, was previously a large supermarket and department store before Herning Municipality initiated the extensive transformation into a modern main library. The original grocery store structure has been preserved and converted into a new cultural centre.
The Hamburg format is a classic brick size measuring approx. 220 x 105 x 65 mm, noted for its somewhat bold appearance and often used in buildings with historic references or robust, dense brickwork.
