The brickwork plays a key role in defining the identity of the building. Lathyrus Hus was built using Matzen Bricks 3255 Red Shade, a brick with a deep red colour and naturally nuanced interplay that gives the façade warmth and weight. The bricks support the industrial architectural references and create a beautiful contrast with the dark green windows that are consistently featured throughout the building. The combination of red brick and green shades gives the building a clear, distinctive personality, modern and robust, yet firmly rooted in the history of the area.

The development includes 128 apartments and was designed as a place where community and green outdoor spaces are an integral part of everyday life. The block has a green courtyard within while a large communal roof terrace with greenhouses and seating areas offers residents the chance to meet, cultivate plants and enjoy views over Grønttorvet. These features reflect the vision for the new district where nature, community and architecture go hand in hand.

ARCHITECTURE

Lathyrus Hus is a prominent block building at Grønttorvet in Valby, completed in 2017 and designed by Årstiderne Arkitekter. The building was clearly inspired by the industrial history of the area and the nearby craftsman’s quarter where the distinctive saw-tooth roofs from the 1950s were a key reference in the design of the rhythm and details of the façade. Particularly notable are the green glazing bars and window frames, which give the building its unique character and connect the history of Grønttorvet with contemporary architecture.
